The unemployment rates
According to the US Labor Department, as of September 2020, the unemployment rate in the USA sits at 7.9%.
In the UK, between July and September 2020, the unemployment rate has been 4.8% according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Towards the middle of 2021, it is estimated that 2.6 million people will be unemployed in the UK.
The unemployment rate in Europe, according to Eurostat is at 7.5% as of September 2020. This number is expected to rise to 8.6 percent in 2021 according to Statista.
Spain is expected to suffer the most from unemployment with the number being 17.9% followed by Greece at 17.5%. The Czech Republic is expected to have the lowest unemployment rate at 3.3%.
The number of employees working remotely since the start of COVID-19
In the wake of the pandemic and with life-changing so drastically, many have turned to working from and finding remote jobs.
In April and May 2020, 51% of Americans were working remotely whilst the COVID-19 was at its peak. This number has decreased to 33% according to Gallup.
According to the Office National Statistics, the number of people working remotely in the UK rose from 21% to 24%. This followed after the Prime Minister’s statement on the 22nd of September 2020 who encouraged people to work from home if possible.
As a result of the pandemic, Eurofound (2020) suggested that 40% of Europeans have been working remotely. Whereas, before the outbreak only a mere 15% had teleworked.
In most European countries, more than half of the people had no prior experience in working remotely.
