If you’ve ever been unable to stop yourself from crying at work, you are far from alone. In fact, a survey of over 3,000 employees indicates that it’s actually less “normal” to remain straight-faced at work. 80% of these respondents admitted to crying at work, and, importantly, they aren’t crying for no reason.

About half of them blamed the problem on their bosses. Roughly 1 in 5 of those surveyed said that problems at home led to emotional distress on the clock, and another 16% admitted to crying due to being overwhelmed by their workload.

There are a couple of reasons you might be crying at work, and we’re prepared to provide solutions for either situation.

A possible problem.

The cause of your distress is based on your work itself. Perhaps you are sensitive to critique or exposed to toxic feedback from your boss or coworkers. Maybe your boss demonstrates abusive tendencies, or perhaps your workload is unbearable.

The solution.

Does this sound like you? If so, speaking to an Online Career Coach about your difficult situations at work can be a great way to cope with your day-to-day workplace experiences, manage your emotions at work, and learn to accept criticism in a way that is advantageous to both you and your employer. Online career coaching can also lead you to form better relationships with your co-workers and work more effectively as part of a team, reducing stress and keeping your days tear-free while you master the skill of how to control your emotions at work.

Another problem.

You are balancing your workday with personal struggles outside of the workplace, and this turmoil taking place outside of work seeps into your time on the clock, too. Perhaps this has led to decreased performance or teary shifts where you try not to cry throughout the day or can’t stop crying at all.

The solution.
